01Data stored on your device
Your meals, calories, macros, weights, body-fat, goals, workout logs, progress photos, and profile are stored locally on your device. They are not shared with other users or sold to anyone. The only copy that leaves your device is the private backup described next, and anything you yourself post into a training group.
02Diary backup
So your diary is not lost when you reinstall FuelIQX or restore your phone, the app periodically uploads a private copy of it to our server. This copy contains what you have logged — meals, weights, check-ins, events, workouts, water and sleep, your saved foods and recipes, and your profile. Photos are never included; your images stay on your device.
The backup is stored against a random identifier derived from your device's sign-in token — never your email address, and never a name. We do not read it, and the server never parses or modifies its contents. It is restored only onto a device where FuelIQX has no diary at all, which is the reinstall case it exists for; it is never merged into a diary that already has entries. Deleting your account from Settings deletes this backup at the same time.
03AI meal analysis
When you scan a meal photo, barcode, or nutrition label, or search or describe a food, the relevant image or text is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), through a secure proxy we operate, solely to estimate nutrition. We do not store these images or texts on our servers, and they are not used to identify you. Only the food content needed for the estimate is sent.
04Food database lookups
When you scan a product barcode or search for a food, the barcode number or the words you typed are sent through our proxy to public food databases — Open Food Facts, USDA FoodData Central, and Nutritionix where enabled — to look up nutrition information. Only that barcode or search text is sent — never your account, photos, health data, or any identifier for you.
When you scan a product that these databases do not know, the product's own details — its barcode, name, brand and nutrition facts — may be added to a shared catalogue so the next person to scan it gets a result. That is information about the product, printed on its packaging; it carries nothing about you, and it is not linked to your account or your device.
05Camera and photos
With your permission, FuelIQX uses your camera to scan meals, barcodes, and labels, and your photo library to choose meal images and a profile photo. Selected photos are used only for the feature you chose and are stored on your device.
06Apple Health
With your permission, FuelIQX reads Active Energy, Resting Energy, Step Count, and Workouts from Apple Health so it can show your calories burned and your net energy balance. With your separate permission, it also saves the meals you log to Apple Health as dietary energy, protein, carbohydrates, and fat, so your nutrition sits alongside your activity. FuelIQX never writes workouts or calories burned to Apple Health.
Health data is read and stored only on your device. It is never uploaded to our servers — it is read from Apple Health as the screen needs it and is not part of the diary backup described above — never included in anything sent to our AI provider, never used for advertising or marketing, and never sold or shared with third parties. You can review or revoke this access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health → FuelIQX.
07Account
If you create an account, your email and a salted hash of your password are stored on your device to sign you in. We do not transmit or store your email address or your password on a server. Your device also holds a random sign-in token, which is what identifies your backup and your group membership to our server; it is not derived from your email and does not reveal it.
08Training groups (optional)
Groups are off until you create or join one. A group is shared by design, so what you put in one is visible to its other members.
When you join, a profile of your chosen display name and primary sport is stored on our server and shown to members of groups you share. Group content — the group's name, sport, description and general location (a city or facility, never a street address), its scheduled sessions and your RSVPs, its feed posts, chat messages, reactions and challenges — is stored on our server so the group can see it. Photos and video clips you post to a group are stored on our server too. None of this is public: every time a photo or a post is fetched, we check that the person asking is still a member of that group, so a link forwarded outside it does not work, and access ends the moment someone leaves or is removed.
We do not put your meals, weights, health data, or email into a group. You can leave a group at any time. Because a group lives on the server and is shared with other people, leaving is the step that removes you from it — deleting your account erases this device's ability to act as you, but cannot retroactively remove you from a group's member list, so leave your groups first if that is what you want.
09Athlete leaderboard (optional)
The leaderboard is off by default. If you choose to join it, a display name you pick and a small set of non-sensitive summary stats — the number of events you've logged, personal records, and wins, plus your primary sport — are uploaded to our server so your ranking can be compared with other opted-in athletes. A random identifier, not tied to your account or device identifiers, links your entry so it can be updated. We do not upload your meals, weight, photos, health data, email, or location for the leaderboard. You can leave at any time, which removes your entry from the server, and inactive entries are deleted automatically.
10Notifications
With your permission, FuelIQX schedules local reminders to log meals. These are generated on your device.
11What we don't do
We do not sell your data. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
12Children
FuelIQX is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
13Your choices
You can erase all app data at any time from Settings → Clear all data, and you can revoke camera, photo, and notification permissions in your device settings. Settings → Delete account permanently erases your account, its diary, and its backup on our server. You can leave the athlete leaderboard, and leave any training group, from inside the app — and because a group is shared with other people, leaving is the step that takes you out of it.
